Retina
The retina is a think layer of tissue in the back of your eye that senses light and sends images to your brain. The macula, the central area of the retina, provides the detailed vision needed for reading, driving, and distance vision.
Retinal conditions affect your vision and can even cause blindness. The goal of treatment is to stop or slow the condition’s progression and preserve, improve, or restore your vision.
Common Retinal Conditions and Treatment Options
Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) – deterioration of the macula resulting in vision loss
- Intravitreal injections if bleeding or fluids develops (“wet” AMD)
- Nutritional therapy can help reduce risk of progression in some cases
Diabetic Retinopathy – swelling and bleeding that can cause severe vision loss
- Intravitreal injections
- Laser treatment
Retinal Vein Occlusion – a blood clot or obstruction of blood flow in a retinal vein
- Intravitreal injections
- Laser treatment
