LASIK

What is LASIK?

LASIK is a procedure used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The painless procedure works by permanently reshaping the cornea.
After LASIK, patients often end up with better vision than they experienced wearing glasses or contact lenses. Imagine your eyesight being crisper, sharper, brighter, and more vibrant than you ever thought possible!

How Do I Know if I’m a Good LASIK Candidate?

At Eye Surgeons of Indiana LASIK Center, we believe that it is critical to make sure LASIK is right for you. Although most patients qualify for LASIK, about 10-15% are deemed non-candidates for this procedure. Unlike many LASIK providers, we offer alternative procedures and most likely can find a solution if this occurs. Reasons for this may include age, dry eye syndrome, or if your corneas are too thin.

You may be a good LASIK candidate if the following applies to you:

These are only some of the factors that go into determining LASIK candidacy. If you want to know if you’re a good LASIK candidate, start by scheduling your LASIK consultation at Eye Surgeons of Indiana LASIK Center!

LASIK Technology

At Eye Surgeons of Indiana, we use the Alcon Refractive Suite, the fastest and most technologically advanced laser system in The United States. The Wavelight FS200 femtosecond laser creates a customized and precise corneal flap. The Wavelight EX500 excimer laser is then gently applied to remove a precise amount of tissue from the cornea. The flap is then placed back down, where it’s left to heal on its own.

LASIK FAQs

No, LASIK is a 15-minute painless procedure. With the use of numbing eye drops and mild oral sedation, you should be very comfortable during LASIK.

Contact lenses can alter the shape of your cornea and be the cause of inaccurate pre-operative measurements. In order to obtain the best results, we ask you to remove your contact lenses to allow the cornea to return to its natural shape. If you wear soft lenses, they should be removed a minimum of one week before your exam. If you wear rigid/gas permeable lenses, remove them at least 3 weeks prior to your exam. Following your pre-operative exam, if you are a soft lens wearer, you will be able to wear your lenses up to 3 days before your surgery. If you wear rigid/gas permeable lenses, you will need to remain out of them until the day of surgery.

It is normal to begin feeling irritation, burning and watering about thirty minutes after the procedure. Please plan to relax and take a 3–4-hour nap. Patients typically wake up feeling much better and have some improved vision already.

You will need a driver the day of surgery and for the one-day post-op appointment

You will be using drops and wearing eye shields while sleeping for the first week after your procedure.

Your new visual freedom comes with a few restrictions after surgery

– No eye makeup for 1 week after your surgery

– No swimming or hot tub for 1 week

– do not rub your eyes for 1 month

– avoid dirty environments for 1 week if possible

The FDA has approved LASIK as a safe and effective procedure. In fact, LASIK is one of the most studied elective procedures on the market today. However, it is important to understand that LASIK is not safe for everyone. Some people are not appropriate candidates, and if treated could have less than optimal results. It is important that you receive a thorough pre-operative evaluation with an experienced provider to determine if LASIK is right for you.

Choosing to have LASIK surgery is a big decision and choosing the right provider may be an even bigger decision. At Eye Surgeons of Indiana LASIK Center, we are dedicated to providing you with the best experience, technology and outcomes in the industry. Our doctors and team have over 100 years combined experience helping patients just like you. We come highly recommended by hundreds of Optometrists throughout Indiana as  the center of choice for themselves, their families and their patients. Come see why we are Indiana’s top choice for visual freedom.

One of the things that makes LASIK so attractive to patients is knowing that it’s a permanent procedure. Once you have your cornea reshaped, your vision is permanently altered.
